Yes. Parking is right next door, and our trolley and shuttle run so no one has to walk over in the cold. The shuttle has a wheelchair lift, and you’re welcome to pull into the barn driveway and drop someone off before you park.Inside, part of the barn is concrete with a wheelchair ramp. The rest is dirt floor, packed down so wheelchairs and walkers can get through.Wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers are all welcome.If you have a question about getting around that evening, give us a call at 217-488-8006. We’d rather sort it out ahead of time than have you wondering.
Christmas in the Barn supports the equines who are a vital part of two local non-profits, Gateway Family Services of Illinois and Hooves of Hope. Both non-profit organizations share the space and partner with the horses as part of their services.
Gateway Family Services of Illinois is a mental health agency that provides trauma focused-equine assisted psychotherapy (Horses Helping Humans Heal), EMDR, art, play, sand, nature-based therapies, as well as psychiatric medication management, Newborn Behavioral Observations, and family support groups.
Hooves of Hope is a faith-based mentoring program that provides day horse camps to teach basic horsemanship skills, learn more about the care of our equines, and teaches about relationships--with God and with our equine partners. Hooves of Hope also hosts Church in the Barn once a month.
